Ages Past

Every year I look forward to attending local Renaissance festivals.  To visit a festival is like taking a trip back in time.  The music, the chivalry, the clothing, the dancing...it all adds to the medieval atmosphere.   I have attended the Renaissance festival in Crownsville, Maryland in the past years, and will be returning this October to continue the tradition.  Also, this year I attended the Celtic Festival, in Furnacetown, Maryland.

Incase you are wondering how or where I get my garb;  I sew my costumes myself.    I buy all of the fabrics and trimmings at my local fabric shops, or I will take a quick trip to Wal-mart's crafting section.  Also, all of my patterns came from the Halloween section of the McCall's and Simplicity pattern books.  Therefore, a costume is fairly easy to come by.  All you need to know is how to sew.

If you are unable to sew you may find a friend who would help you.  But, if all else fails, you can go to a festival and by garb.  They have a wide selection to choose from.  You will find everything from the hat to wear on your head, on down to your choice of foot wear.   And for those who can not sew, and do not want to wait until the day of the festival to buy the garb, my advice is to search the internet.  There are many sites that advertise patterns and ready-made garb.  If you check eBay you will often find a good bargain.  There are some good bargains out there, it just takes a little looking.

Hopefully I will be posting some pictures of people wearing Renaissance and Medieval garb within a month or so.
